acutlly walsh uses a rod called carillo rods. SP? There the same rods the factory guys use. But there on 6week back order. Factory guys also dont run the brass sleeve and have dlc wrist pins. The main problem with stock cranks is that its metal on metal. I had a new rod bored out and brass sleeve inserted. This was cheap and very very effective way. wile keep rotational weight down. There promised me to get the hole year out of it with out it breaking. It should never brake but its recommended to change after a year. and a crank rod for 60 and to have the sleeve put in for 80. do it

From what I know n have seen ! Walshy is %100 right . Even though I've had guys tell me they got more than 100 hrs on there crank with high comp piston . The factory mechs say 10hrs tops on the good cranks every ride on stock . Take it as u want .

So how long will a stock engine last before it comes close to ventilating itself?

last year i ran a stock motor for the hole season. and i beat the pissss out of it and it did not break. i did break the case though but do to something getting stuck in sprocket and ripped the front sprocket back. So i put new everything in it. I would say if maintain correctly you can get 2years out of the stock compression piston. With no head work. But its a gamble

Is that racing every other weekend though? I'm not racing mine, just 2 or 3 visits to the sand a year for a hand full of days each time plus trail riding around here once in a while. I'm guessing the longevity of mine will be a bit more than 2 years lol

well that all depends on what your motor is worth to you, a motor is very expensive, and if its not a big deal to you to replace, then run it till it blows, and it WILL blow

If your motor is stock and you are taking care of the regular maintenance, I hardly doubt that it will blow before giving you the normal signs of wear and tear. I put around 50-55 hours of trail riding and drag racing almost every other weekend on my kfx before it started smoking. When it was opened up everything including the piston looked like new, but the gap on the rings was way off.
