Engine was growling last dune trip, road back to camp and pulled the oil filter cover to find it full of metal. Pulled timing cover and crank on fly wheel side had play in it.. .020"- .030" or so. I've never split cases, do i need to split the case to replace this bearing......? any info is appreciated.....

im pretty sure you have to split the case the best way is if you do it your self get a service manual for detailed instructions on dissasembly!im in the process of changing gears in my old bike a 400ex helping my friend who bought it and it wasnt to bad of a job just needed a flywheel puller which you can order from motion pro and there cheap like 25 bucks or so!took us like 2 hours to get it all apart then split just waiting on gears for reasembly!

oh most likely you will need a press or bearing puller as well for crank bearings but those are cheap as well!
