Well, when this machine came out I was excited to have a quad with all the package for some good trail riding. I have riding since I was young. Always been a Honda guy. After doing research on the problems with the TRX450, I looked else where.

I have been reading and reading about what different people say about the KFX. It seems this machine does have a good deal of problems. I am not looking to race or even mod, just a good stock machine, that I can perform maintenance and go.

Is this something just with 450 motors in general? I see that raptors and some of the other "bigger" quads have their issues too.......

If you want a kfx450 and you want to keep it just stock, without doing any bolt ons, get you and 07 or newer honda 450. I have a kfx450 I bought in early 08. I was not happy with it at all performance wise, it handled like a dream though. With being stock they have a very bad intake restriction, if you ever look at a stock intake you will know what I mean!! Now if you want to do some bolt ons, now we are talking about a whole new story. Stock these things put out 36- 38 horse, from what my local dyno shop tells me. I added a Fuel Customs Intake, stock 07 dirtbike cams(found on ebay for around 60 dollars) Ron Woods pipe, and a bored throttle body(45mm). When adding these components, I was at 48hp, it turned it into a completely different bike, I love the power. I think if you purchased one of these and did these mods you would love it, but that is my opinion, I really love the power of mine and the way it handles. For reliability I have had the fuel pump go out on mine, and it cost me $300(The fuel filter is made into the pump on these and you have to be sure to filter your gas, thats why mine went out, it was clogged with dirt particles) and for some reason these things drain the battery while just sitting, even with everyrthing turned off(thats on mine though), one way to cure that is to buy a battery tender and keep it on the charger as often as you can(if the same thing were to happen to you). Despite those annoying problems I think you would love love it. It is a very awesome machine!!! Hope this helps you out

As for the battery just keep it in neutral.. I had the shop test mine and found that while in gear it was drawing electricity.. when in neutral it had no pull at all.. I've never had a problem since.
