Default Kx450r engine in a KFX450 frame?

Hey guys, Ive got a blown KFX and i was wondering if it would just be easier to swap the engines.

First of all, Where can i find a used kfx motor?

Second, if i cant find one, would a KX450 motor bolt right in and work with all of the electronics?

any input is appreciated..

Default kfx450 engine blown

i own three new kfx 450s all monsters. two 08s one 09. all bought new and they have been nothing but trouble from the day i bought them. they have been in the shop more than ive had them home. i ride one and my two sons ride the others. two of them have blown motors and they are under warranty but kawi. wont honor the warranty. they say it is from abuse. we only ride once a week on sundays. we clean the filters and we change the oil every four to six hours. they also have been in the shop for all kinds of things like wont hold a charge. dealer dont no why. water pumps have gone. starters have gone. now the dealer wants me to pay over 4000.00 to fix them thats right 4000.00 when we took them in for the service they told me that the warranty would cover them now they tell me that kawi wont pay for them. they have them ripped apart and they want to charge me 500.00 just to pick them up while they are torn apart. these quads are spot less. mint cond. other than the motors. my boys are so upset they couldnt ride all summer. i would never buy kawi. again

You won't catch me defending Kawasaki... because I have found also that they DON'T honor their warranty also.

Here is my advice to you....

First... what are they saying specifically the "ABUSE" is?
Let's first defend you instead of accuse them if you know what I mean.

Shoot me that info... and I will hook you up with someone who had a similar problem and can tell you the steps you need to take to get them to cover these repairs under warranty.

IT CAN AND WILL HAPPEN IF YOU ARE NOT AT FAULT.

And once you get these machines home, call Procom Engineering and see what kind of deal they can cut you on 3 of their programmable ECU's.

I can tell you for a FACT you have bad ECU's and that you CAN'T get Kawi to replace them under warranty, and frankly you honestly don't want them to.

I have been through the ECU thing myself and know. Knowing what I know, the "won't hold a charge and they don't know why" is a dead give away.

Heck, the ECU controls everything and might even be responsible for your engine failures. But I don't know for sure because I don't know what happened to the engines.

I am purely guessing... but I would say that the KX engine would probably work... and provide a lot more power. Probably any year too. KLX also.

Here is where it gets TRICKY though... 2 things...

1- Do you want to retain fuel injection, stock lighting, etc????

2- I worry that the bike bottom end just will not stand up to the extra abuse and weight of the quad. But I could be dead wrong on that.

In the end, you might have to take the two engines and create one sort of hybrid to make it work.
