I have a Dasa 16" pipe and over the past 2 weeks ive noticed a good amount of packing coming out. It is also noticeably louder than before. The pipe is only like a month old. My friend has a Dasa on his LTR and has had packing problems too. Has anyone else experience this problem with their Dasa?

Most companys will say the pipe needs to be repacked after every 10 - 20 hours of use. I have seen double that out of mine with no issues. Here are some factors that will SEVERELY shorten your packings life span.

1. Keeep the water out. Once the packing gets wet or damp it will break down faster.

2. Make sure the bike is tunned right. If the bike is too lean the packing will burn up faster.

Seems alot of people wash their bike and dont plug up the canister to protect the packing. I think this is the biggest issue. Once that packing gets damp it breaks down very fast.

I am currently working with a company to develop improved exhaust packing for the latest 450 quads which are notorious at destroying typical exhaust packing.

I've been testing various components from this company over extended 150 to 200 mile a day rides.

The first products tested lasted about 600 miles or 25 to 30 hours of use. I am currenly on the second round of testing with a slightly different make-up.

here are some photos of the first components (multiple layers of different materials) tested.

If you run a spark arrestor your packing will usually expire at a quicker rate.

Be aware that with exhaust packing blown out you risk damaging the exhaust can and/or mounting brackets due to overheating.

The company I am working with expects to have a new product out on the market early next year.

You are 100% due to the increased heat. If you run a sparky make sure the bike is tunned to run with a sparky.

The sparky displaces the exhaust flow into the packing more wearing it out as a result of the obstruction in the exhaust flow.

Generally with a sparky in your quad should run at leaner fuel metering than without the sparky

Leaner is hotter and hotter is burning up the packing. Not saying the flow wont cause an issue too, but HEAT is the big enemy.

from all the packing I"ve tested.. best on the market currently is the FMF muli-layer packing available at Rocky Mountain ATV.

Don't ride with the packing blown.. you will ruin the exhaust.
