Intake and air box question .... what would you want?

I am working on the FUELATV intake for the KFX450. Initial dyno runs have shown big gains. The new intake tube is designed, the billet adaptor is done. I have run the prototype filter. I still need to dyno a couple more filters. The first runs were done with my custom designed LTR450 filter. It worked great and the KFX may use the same filter, but i want to run a larger one to see how it does. ***** NOW **** for the real question. I am almost 100% sure that i will be able to make a new aluminum air box that will provide PLENTY of air for the intake. This box will not have a top, but it will have a back bottom and sides. We will be doing final dyno runs soon. So if i can make a new air box that makes as much HP on the dyno as no air box what one would you want?

Here is a basic idea of prices. nothing is set in stone, but this is a ruff estimate to help with the choice. Count on this intake giving a dyno proven 3+ HP

FUELATV intake with aluminum air box - $259.99 - $299.99

FELATV intake with no air box - $$229.99 - $259.99

Below are photos of my LTR450 intake. Just to give you an idea of the quality .......

Water repellent outerwear

Custom designed filter with uinverted end cap

That end cap is functional and creates veloctiy

The complete air box eliminator for the LTR450 .... MINUS the outerwear

must have air box, I would not run an air filter system out in the open, airbox is a must! taking pre orders?
how much of a gain? 3+?
I dont think anyone could X contury race with out air box, but I guess MX, Flat Track, Ice, TT, and Drag would be okey without the box.
You're going to get the most w/out the airbox. I run mine w/out the box as I do on all my quads but only MX is done and they get cleaned every ride.

Fuel: Nice looking setup. I have been trying to find a good filter for my setup and found a similar one but am going a different route than you have. Nice and well made it looks like! Good price too!

I have already designed an air box that i feel will offer enough air to make just as much HP as no box. Now i need to dyno it and check production costs to see if it is affordable. I will have the KFX450 intakes with air box eliminators available in a few weeks.

air box is a must for me, count me in for a box if the price is right
fuel. does any of your intakes have the air sencer filtered or inside the clean air? kawasaki put it there to keep it clean. all the intakes I have seen leave the sencer outside in the dirty air. from the photos, it looks like you have the room to drill the holes for the airsencer above the flange and install threw the back side so the tip is inside clean air?
also, did you weld in the crankcase breater nipple? or one more filter for that, thats just one more thing to clean, It would be nice if it were there also.
you takeing pre-orders yet?
please pm me, I would like you to see a photo of mine.
great work you guys are doing,
how far out is the pipe shootout? can you give us the top 3? as of now? Its just killing us all,
Thanks again.............

As of now the sensor is exsposed, but it is not hanging out in the open. It will bolt behind the aluminum bracket. The air will be clean where it is mounted. I did the same thing with the LTR450 intake. It has worked fine and i have been running the FUELATV LTR450 intake for 2 years now.

If you look at photo #3 you will see the holes for the air sensor on the lower right and pretty close to what you are saying. The air will be clean forsure. Now remember those are photos of the LTR450 intake ...... not the KFX450 intake. My KFX450 intake will INCLUDE a new intake tube too.

The crank case breather will go into the intake tube.

Thanks .... i have had alot of help to make it happen. None of the pipe companys gave me a free pipe. i have to pay for all of them out of my pocket. It is getting close, but still about 2 - 4 weeks out. I dont have a top three yet ...... it is killing me too. You can follow the progress on the OTHER site. Now have photos and DB tests done on most of the pipes. Dyno sheets are on the way .....

I race mx but would an airbox for the mudraces that show up every now and then

How'd the intake with air box coming? Anyway we could make a lid for it. I hardly ever have a day of riding where I don't come back muddy.
The box is in production now. It will be done in about 4 wks. It will not have a top. The seat fits tight on the top and i can see needing anymore protection unless you are ridding through rivers. Its all about keeping your filter clean. If you clean the filter after ridding some dirt and mud wont hurt ......... just keep it clean after ridding.
