ok heres whats going on. Purchased the quad right when it came out and it worked well for about a week or so. Now every time i go to start the quad, i hear a slow crank and grinding noises. The quad will start after a bit but then once it runs and gets shut off it will do the same thing.

I brought it to two Kawi dealers and had it looked at, the problem was never identified. The battery was replaced twice but still seems to drain. Every battery that was put into the quad seems to fail the load test. The quad is stored every single night on a battery tender with the kill and key off.

The weak start gets worse every time the quad is left to sit without the tender. I was thinking there could be a load on the battery but it's not from the key or kill. The headlights and wires we removed but it mad no differnece. I triple checked all connections and checked for corrosion aswell.

Even after riding all day, as soon as the quad shuts off it is very difficult to start again. The valves were just adjusted, idle and enricher reset, stator and electrical tested ( i have the outputs is that will help). I was told from the dealer that the startor and/or one way clutch might be broken and we are looking into that next.

Any ideas? Anyone having similar problems?

Thanks
Dean

Seems most KFX had starting issues for the first 10 hours..mine was started the first time but subsequent starts were a bear....Id say at the least make sure you call Kawi cust service 949 460 5688 to let them know the dealer cannot resolve your problem, its a good idea to have it documented.

have them check the TPS. There has been info posted on this site about the TPS being off.

Also the battery is know to drain. When turning the quad off follow these steps. Use the on/off switch first then turn the key off. This has worked for me as well as others.

good luck.

I had the same problem with my kfx i got it last febuary and it had no starting problems for like 2 months and then i was blowing out main fuses 2 or 3 times every time i rode. Ever since then battery keeps dying on me. one day i was out in my garage and i heard thefuel pump running and the key was in the house. the the next day i was riding and my quad just died out, motor cranked and cranked but never fired. then i figured out that the fuel pump wasnt turning on along with my pc3 i brought it to the dealer and it took them 2 weeks to figure out it was the fuel pump relay, some how it was getting a charge with the key being off. now with the new relay i have had no problems.

thanks. Took mine into the dealer today and gave them the list to look at: subframe where the tool box bolts to, TPS setting, and fuel pump relay.

Hopefully they will take their time to look at everything carefully.

Well the quad is apart for a winter build but i did find a couple of interesting things going on. When i took apart the starter, there was a good amount of dirt inside. Also the bushes were very worn down. With that cleaned and sanded along with a new battery i hope i will be problem free. I will let you guys know shortly. Thanks for the help!

correct me if im wrong, but a TPS issue is more common when the quad is cranking and cranking and cranking but not starting. My quad wont even crank

updates- went ahead and purchased a kick starter kit, after myself, 3 other men and a mechanic from the dealer attempted to start it we realized there is a serious problem. When the quad key is on the FL light remains on constantly and the quad is extremely hard to start. When push started the quad runs perfectly but will not start any other way. It will not kick start.

the new noise the starter is making is a weak almost liquidy gurgling noise. Im very VERY frustrated, anybody have any ideas?

well i ordered a new starter and a new battery, ill keep you informed
Very weird. My bike was never really difficult to start--after I realized that I couldn't touch the throttle when starting... It took a few tank fulls for it to want to idle right, and to require less time on the "choke" (fast-idle). Now that it is fully broken-in, it purrs like a kitten. I believe that part of the problem may be that they are so lean from the factory. Mine was ridiculously lean and would ping and detonate under full acceleration while duning. A FuelATV Airbox, Dasa Exhaust, and an EFI controller cured all its woes, however.
