Took the 450 out to el mirage for the first time to open it up. cheched my trail tech against a speed gun, pretty accurate... top speed of 77 mph @10500 rpm with 15t frant and stock tires. the bike seems to drop down on power at around 9k (need cams)... need more gearing, 36 rear? over all stll not impressed with this one. raced an 05 yfz w/intake and exh, and he pulled e in 4th very time

this thread has turned into a "my wooter is bigger then yours" argument...BEWARE!

my YFZ with just pipe/intake runs 82 mph on GPS with stock tires (pavement).

The stock KFX ran about 58mph in dirt. With mods (intake open, plug out and fuel controller) and a 33 rear sproket runs aprox 70 mph (GPS) in dirt. Stock 660 Raptor pull slightly from the KFX from a dead stop drag. Inches away on top end.

KFX is a joke unless most of your riding is below 55 mph

for some reason i dont think your right, and your comparing pavement to dirt. its known that a stock kfx tops out at around 69 mph on pavement, so if there is an 11mph difference do to the fact it was on dirt, then it would obvioulsly be much higher than 70 on pavement also. i believe it was PCamerica that had it running 83mph with 15t/34t, and around 77mph with just a 34t rear. a 15t in the front is a good improvement but not enough to get a good topspeed, just add a 36t rear to that and it will be good.

I mounted my handheld gps on the bars and in the dirt my max was 63, it's fully stock, I was a bit disappointed, I thought for sure I was in the tail end of the 60's..
its got the power it just needs the gear

i think its pretty obvious every kfx owner has said its just a gearing problem. no one is suprised anymore, a new sprocket or two and the problem is fixed.

not sure why you are so worried about our top speed problem anyway.

is the gps completely accurate? was he on pavement or sand?

give it up. the kfx has good top speed it just takes new sprockets.

dlkfx450

who is talking smack now?

this is not the only owner that has been surprised by the slow top end speed.
I don't think id go so far as to say it's slow, if i wreck at that speed i'm pretty much toast..I was expecting to hit around 67-70 so it's a bit lower than expectations..eventually i'll change the gearing so I have more on the top end but overall i love the bike and can't even compare to the former Z400..

Besides, what would you expect a stock 450 to top out at?

most if not all 450's top out at about 10 mph over your GPS speed along with the 660 and 700 Raptor.

The YFZ with pipe, filter, a/b cover off, stock gearing and tires will bump the rev limiter at 77-78 mph on gps.
The LT-R450 is approximately the same speed with the CB, lid off and plug pulled from the exhaust (stock gearing and tires).

You will never see that out of the KFX no matter how it is geared.

Best advise I can give you is to pick your tracks and racing environments with the top speed handicap you are faced with.

Did you read the 1st post?, it toped out at 77mph, but he expected more.

in Fast1's firts post the kfx was just inches away from a raptor 660 at the top end, now all of a sudden its 10 mph faster. he doesnt know anything about this bike. that was the same kfx with a 33t sprocket that could only go 58mph.

lets face it, his facts are not straight and he just likes to talk trash about the kfx.

from what ive read from other posts a stock kfx goes about 69mph, a magazine review said the kfx stock was around 5mph slower than the other 450's. a 15t front or 36t rear will get you about 73mph, a 34 rear or 15t/36t should get 77mph.

also notice how he describes his yfz compared to the kfx. his just has a pipe and intake, but the kfx has mod(open intake, plug out, and fuel controller) there is a difference there, having a pipe, intake, and its obviously jetted, is alot more than what the kfx has.

hes just weird and possibly jealous.

just ask dabutcher from this site... he rides his with me and about 5 others.

You all need to learn how to read.

His with these mods, fuel controler, geared, lid off, plug pulled will not keep up to a stock 660 raptor that only does 72/73 mph on pavement and high 60's in the dirt.

But think what ever you want if it makes you feel better. If any of you live near Wiscsonsin or MN I've got my YFZ and a GPS just waiting for you and all your BS. Bring your money and will have a little wager.
